Self-Assessment and Rights-Based Approach P2P Meeting for Turkey, was organised within the EU TACSO 3 CD and P2P Programme and took place between 25-27 May 2022, gathering 53 CSO representatives from Turkey and Western Balkan countries. The main objective of the meeting was about creating a ground for CSOs from Turkey and Western Balkans to share the good practices of self-assessment and adopt the rights-based approach in the work of CSOs.

Self-Assessment and Rights-Based Approach P2P Meeting for Turkey was organised in a sequence of two (2) steps: first, a three-day online meeting on self-assessment and rights-based approach for CSOs who are willing to develop an inclusive and rights-based management structure within their own CSO or CSO network; second, Conclusion Report of the meeting which will compile the discussions held during the meeting as well as the good practices of self-assessment and adopting a rights-based approach in the work of CSOs. The three-day online meeting gave floor to the keynote speakers to clarify the conceptual framework of “participation” and “mainstreaming rights-based approach” as well as to present good practices in adopting a rights-based approach in the management of CSOs and CSO networks. The main focus of the meeting was designated as CSOs and CSO networks from Turkey, while the relevant experience from Western Balkan countries was also shared as added value. The meeting consisted of both panel sessions and parallel workshops, giving the floor to keynote speakers, guest speakers from North Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia who have already developed a rights-based self-assessment and decision-making mechanism within their own CSO or CSO network.

The meeting played an important role for bringing together the good practices and different methodologies of self-assessment, mainstreaming rights-based approach and participation with a specific emphasis to the concepts “participation”, “mainstreaming rights-based approach” and “gender equality”. The meeting also directed attention to The Global Standard for CSO Accountability, which is also mentioned in the EU CS Guidelines 2021-2027 and offers 12 accountability commitments that captures a shared understanding of accountability from CSOs and embodies a dynamic approach to accountability by encouraging organisations to engage in a continuous two-way dialogue with stakeholders. During the different sessions of the meeting CSOs from different thematic areas, such as, human rights, youth rights, children’s rights and gender equality put emphasis on the importance of developing a democratic and participatory structures within CSOs to strengthen their transparency and accountability as well as the importance of developing internal monitoring mechanisms by taking into consideration the intersectionality of rights. The Conclusion Report of the meeting will also serve as a resource document for CSOs who would like to develop an inclusive and rights-based management structure within their own CSO or CSO network and will compile the discussions held during the meeting together with the good practices of self-assessment and adopting a rights-based approach in the work of CSOs.
